README.TXT ========== SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS =================== To run "Baby Keys" you need the following: * 192K (Kilo bytes) of free memory * A Floppy or Hard disk system (hard disk recommended) * PC/MS DOS 2.11 or above. Or Novell DR DOS 6.0 or above * A HERCULES, CGA, MCGA, PLANTRONICS, EGA, or VGA graphics adapter. * About 230K free space on the disk that will be running Baby Keys. See Page 3 of the user manual for more details. INSTALLATION ============ Use the INSTALL program to set up Baby Keys. To use INSTALL, you would type something similar to the following at the DOS prompt: INSTALL s: d: | | | Destination Drive | Source Drive Make sure to include colon (:) after the drive letter. The above command is ONLY a model. You won't literally type in the above command. However using the model "INSTALL s: d:", you would type something like the following: INSTALL a: b: This example copies Baby Keys from the A: drive to the B: drive. On a hard disk you might type the following: INSTALL a: c: This example copies Baby Keys from the A: drive to the C: drive. See page 4 of the user manual for more details. PRINTING THE MANUAL =================== To print the manual, you can type a command similar to the following: COPY BABYKEYS.DOC LPT1: /B ^ | This can be any valid DOS device. For example, you could replace "LPT1" with "COM1". DISTRIBUTION ============ Please see Page 8 (DISTRIBUTION OF THIS SOFTWARE) for rules on distribution. LATEST FEATURES =============== Here is a list of the features available in version 2.1.0 of Baby Keys: * It comes complete with installation instructions and documentation. * It will run as a DOS application under Microsoft Windows (PIF file, ICOn file and Program Group included). * It will run as a DOS application under OS/2 release 2.1. * and are intercepted by Baby Keys. * Works with most of the keys on your keyboard (except , and ). * Supports 33 musical notes, 7 special effect sounds and 7 musical melodies. * Has 6 text-based graphic routines and 13 bit-mapped graphic routines (with 4 fill patterns). * Supports the CGA, MCGA, Plantronics, EGA and VGA graphic adapters in up to 8 colors. Also supports the Hercules graphic adapter in 2 shades (black and white). RUNNING BABY KEYS WITH MS-WINDOWS 3.1 ===================================== The following files are automatically copied during installation: BABYKEYS.PIF to path \BABYKEYS BABYKEYS.GRP to path \WINDOWS BABYKEYS.ICO to path \BABYKEYS Use the Windows Setup option in the MAIN group to tell your system about Baby Keys. NOTE: If Windows is not located in the C:\WINDOWS path on your system, you will have to use the PIF Editor. In the MAIN group, use the PIF Editor to modify the file BABYKEYS.PIF. By using the PIF Editor, you will tell Windows where to find Baby Keys. When you have successfully installed a Program Group and Program Item for Baby Keys, your icon should be a little baby. If you do not see a little baby as the Baby Keys icon, do the following: (1) Maximize the Program Manager. (2) Highlight the Baby Keys Group and Icon. (3) Select "File" from the Program Manager. (4) Select "Properties". (5) Select "Change Icon". (6) At the "File Name:" prompt, you would type in the drive, path, as well as the word BABYKEYS.ICO.
